| VANDERBILT ESTATE IS TAXED $1,335,812 Property Left by Commodore's Widow Put at $10,004,587- Children Inherit Bulk. HOSPITAL GETS $80,000 Rev. J.I. Norris Willed $25,000 to Catholic charities--F.A. July 15, 1936 The estate of Mrs. Alice Gwynne Vanderbilt, widow of Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt, who died on April 22, 1934, will pay a transfer tax of $1,335,812,19, according to an order signed yesterday by Surrogate James A. Foley, fixing the tax. Mrs. Vanderbilt left an estate of $10,770,907.19 gross and $10,004,587.85 net, according to the papers on file. The estate held stocks and bonds valued at $2,013,495.64, real estate worth $660,000, mortgages, notes, cash and insurance worth $1,247,252.31; miscellaneous property appraised at $820,284.02, transfers valued at $94,803.13 and powers of appointment over property worth $5,935,572.07. Among expenses listed are deductions of $402,888.89 for mortgages, debts totaled $107,090.15, charitable bequests amounted to $180,000 and funeral and administration expenses $76,340.28. In her will Mrs. Vanderbilt left $80,000 to the Newport Hospital, Newport, R.I., and legacies of $50,000 each to the Society of St. Johnland and St. Bartholomew's Church. |

| Mrs. Vanderbilt named her son, Cornelius Vanderbilt of 640 Fifth Avenue, as principal beneficiary. He receives the life income from the residuary estate and specific property in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Countess Gladys Szechenyl, a daughter, of London, England, gets property at 1 East Sixty-seventh Street, which was appraised at $650,000 and which is subject to a mortgage of $400,000. The value of the bequest for the tax purposes is listed at $250,000. The Countess also receives real estate and furnishings at Newport, R.I., and after payment of specific bequests, two-thirds of the principal of the trust of $6,070,119.57, over which the widow had power of appointment. Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, a daughter of 871 Fifth Avenue, receives $150,000 and a contingent remainder interest in the residuary estate. The will names Cornelius Vanderbilt Jr. and Grace Vanderbilt, grandchildren, as remaindermen of the residuary estate. The will also bequeathed $500,000 of the same trust to the children of Alfred G. Vanderbilt and the rest of the principal to her son, the late Reginald C. Vanderbilt. Numerous other relatives, friends and employees also receive varying bequests. It is for a $100,000 bequest under this will that Mrs. Gloria Morgan Vanderbilt is now suing. |
